NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team won the team's 25th consecutive game on Wednesday night in historic fashion with a Freeman Center record 118-point showing against William Peace University (2-5). The Captains improved to 8-0 with the fourth-most points scored in a game in program history, defeating the Pacers by a final count of 118-43.

The breakneck pace of the CNU offense on Wednesday night led to the largest margin of victory since the late 90's when the Captains secured an 80-point win against Allen University (100-20) on December 12, 1998. It was the ninth largest margin of victory in program history and the most points scored in a game for the Captains since 1991 when the team scored a program record 120 against Averett (120-23) on January 19, 1991.

Not only did the Captains extend the second longest active win streak in the nation, the team also recorded the 25th consecutive home victory, tying the second longest home winning streak ever. Christopher Newport has not lost at home since falling to nationally-ranked Messiah on December 1, 2018. The +75 advantage shattered the previous Freeman Center record for scoring margin, set at 64 in a 100-36 win over Methodist in the 2019-20 season.

Freshman Hannah Kaloi notched a new career-high with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting to help lead the Captains' impressive offensive night. She was one of five Captains in double figures including a team-high 19 points from Sondra Fan, also on 7-of-10 shooting, while Natalie Terwilliger and Alivia Giles added 14 and Jovia Winkey poured in 11 points. As a team, the Captains shot 54.2% from the floor with 45 of 83 shots going through.

By halftime, Christopher Newport led the Pacers, 64-17, after taking more than twice as many shots in the first half than their William Peace counterparts. The Captains shot 48% (24-50) while holding the Pacers to just 29.2% (7-24). CNU torched the nets from long range, hitting eight first-half three-pointers while knocking down 42.1% from deep.

The red-hot shooting carried over into the second half, when CNU scored 30+ for the third consecutive quarter. A 35-14 period put the Captains ahead, 99-31, and the team would coast to the big win by shooting even better in the second half. The Captains knocked down 21 of just 33 attempts in the second half for a torrid 63.6% effort from the field. With all cylinders firing, the Captains added three more triples and were also dangerous from the free-throw line, knocking down 81% of their shots from the charity stripe (17-21).

As usual, good defense led to the strong offensive performance as the Captains forced 43 turnovers and scored 60 points off of the Peace giveaways. Christopher Newport ripped 23 steals with all but one player logging at least one theft.

All 13 players that saw action in the game got into the scoring column, led by the aforementioned quintet of double-figure scorers. Phylicia McInnis added three from beyond the arc to score nine points while Katy Rader also hade nine on 4-of-7 shooting. Anaya Simmons scored six points while leading the team in assists with five and steals with three despite playing just 11 minutes; also scoring six points was rookie Hannah Orloff, who filled the stat sheet adding five rebounds, four blocks, and one steal.

Behind Simmons' passing totals, four more Captains logged four assists as rookie Lexi White, sophomore Gabbi San Diego, and seniors Fan and Jessica Foster each had four dimes. In total, the Captains had 30 assists on 45 made baskets in the game. CNU also won the battle on the glass with a 47-39 advantage overall. Terwilliger had a team-high seven rebounds while senior Julia Ng and Winkey each had four.

Christopher Newport will return to action on Saturday, December 4 to play host to Meredith College at 2:00 p.m.  Live stats and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com.
