Edgewood College Falls Victim to UW-La Crosse Fourth Quarter Rally

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Edgewood College Women's Basketball team led for much of the game on Friday in a battle with UW-La Crosse. In a battle of Eagles at the UW-La Crosse Thanksgiving Classic, the home rallied back in the fourth quarter to stun Edgewood College, 58-55 despite a 20-point effort from Emma Klein.

- Edgewood College (0-4) led 47-41 heading into the fourth quarter and held a seven-point lead (51-44) after Klein scored with just under six minutes left. That is when UW-La Crosse (6-1) would take over, ripping off a 7-0 run to tie the game at 51.

- Diamond Pikulyk put Edgewood College back on top with a bucket with 3:46 left, but that would be the last lead of the game for the visiting Eagles. Trailing 53-52, Paige Schumann of UW-La Crosse buried a 3-point jump shot to push her team in front with 1:49 left. That basket was part of another 7-0 for UW-La Crosse that gave them a 58-53 lead until Klein hit a shot at the buzzer to give her a game-high 20 points.


- Edgewood College stifled UW-La Crosse in the opening half, holding them to 28.1 percent shooting in building a 27-24 lead. Klein had eight points in the opening half, while Abby Shane added seven.

- Klein finished the game with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting. She added five rebounds and a team-best three assists for Edgewood College. Shane added nine points, while Vivian Guerrero posted eight points, six rebounds, and two blocks.

- Gabby Ritchie played a big role off the UW-La Crosse bench to help in the comeback win. She scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting in just 16-plus minutes of action. The UW-La Crosse bench outscored the Edgewood College reserves, 30-11.

- Edgewood College finished the game with a big advantage in the paint, outscoring UW-La Crosse 32-18 inside. Edgewood College did struggle from deep, however, shooting just 2-of-21 from 3-point range. UW-La Crosse wasn't much better from the outside, making 3-of-16.

- Edgewood College will play another game at the UW-La Crosse Holiday Inn Express Thanksgiving Classic tomorrow afternoon. The Eagles will battle UW-Eau Clare in a matchup set to begin at 1 p.m.
