KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Saturday afternoon to the Ithaca College Bombers 84-42 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.
Amelia Poole (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield) set a new career-high with 18 points to lead Keuka College (0-5). Lauren Hill (Cobleskill, N.Y. / Cobleskill-Richmondville) led the Wolves with a game-high 13 rebounds.
Ithaca College 84 at Keuka College 42
The Bombers jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the opening 1:30. Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) found Megan Brown (Middleburgh, N.Y. / Middleburgh) in the paint as the Wolves got on the board. Ithaca responded with 11 unanswered as they took control of the quarter. Keuka cut into the lead with back-to-back threes by Amelia Poole, but the Bombers led 29-11 after one.
The Wolves had a strong spell early in the second quarter. A layup by Katherine Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) started a 9-0 run for the Green and Gold as the Wolves cut the lead to 11 at 31-20 with 6:23 left in the half. Ithaca responded and did not allow the Wolves to cut the lead to single digits. The Bombers scored the final six of the half and led 41-22 at the break.
Ithaca pushed their run to 12 points as they scored the first six of the third quarter. A jumper by Poole snapped the run. The Wolves would hit three three-pointers in the third with Killian Mahoney (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) knocking down a pair and Amelia Poole hit one with seven seconds left in the quarter, but Ithaca College carried a 66-35 lead to the final quarter.
Play opened up in the fourth as the two teams combined for 24 three-point attempts in the final quarter. Ithaca outscored the Wolves 18-7 in the fourth to secure the 84-42 victory.
KC Notes:
- Saturday was the first time Keuka has faced Ithaca since the 1999-2000 season. The Wolves are 5-11 all-time, losing seven straight against the Bombers
- Poole's career-high 18 points were buoyed by four triples, tying a career-best for three-pointers made
- Lauren Hill and Sydney Brown each tied their career-highs with 13 and six rebounds, respectively
- The Wolves did not attempt a free-throw on Saturday. It was the first time in ten years Keuka College did not go to the charity stripe.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves remain at home with one more game prior to Thanksgiving break. The Green and Gold will host Alfred State on Tuesday, November 23 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Tipoff between the Pioneers and Wolves is slated for 6pm.
