TOWSON, Md. -- Wrapping up play in the Inaugural Renie Amoss Tip-Off Classic against the host Goucher Gophers (1-3), the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team was dominant in every phase of the game as they cruised to a 113-42 victory on the road Saturday evening. Tied for the sixth most points in a single game in program history, the Captains improved to 4-0 with the offensive explosion, marking the second time already this season surpassing the century mark.

Five Captains finished in double figures for the Captains including a career-high performance by junior Katy Rader with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. The York, Pa. native knocked down three triples and filled the stat sheet with three rebounds, an assist, a block, and two steals. Matching Rader's game-high with 17 points was rookie Hannah Orloff, who sank all but one of her attempts while falling just shy of a double-double with eight rebounds. Orloff also stuffed the stat sheet with five blocks and four steals in just 17 minutes of action.

Four of the five double-figure scoring performances came off the Captains bench as the reserves scored 80 points in the win. In addition to Rader and Orloff, CNU also got a career-high 16 points from Jovia Winkey and 10 points from Alivia Giles. Rounding out the five CNU players in double figures was Sondra Fan, pouring in 12 points to lead the starting unit.

The offense was cooking on an historical pace, knocking down 58.3% of shots from the field in the game. That mark is a top-ten single game performance in Christopher Newport history and the best shooting effort since the Captains hit 61.3% of their shots against Frostburg State on January 25, 2014.

While the offense continued it's torrid start to the season, the patented CNU defensive pressure was equally as impressive. The Captains forced 34 turnovers and scored 49 points off Goucher giveaways. CNU secured 20 steals and all but two players picked up at least one theft in the game. Fan and Orloff led the defense with four steals apiece while four more Captains had two each.

The defense did not allow Goucher to score more than 11 points in any of the four quarters and took a 65-20 lead at halftime. The Gophers were held to just 15 made field goals for a 30.6% shooting percentage in the game.

The Captains were ahead by just seven points with 4:03 remaining in the first quarter before a dominant 15-0 run to end the period turned into a 48-10 burst into the intermission.

Christopher Newport has won 21 straight games and will look to continue that roll next weekend at the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Tournament. CNU will take on Lebanon Valley College first on Friday, November 19 at 6:00 pm; they will then face either the host Yellow Jackets or Averett University on Saturday in Ashland, Va.
