HENNIKER, N.H. -- Allie Goodman had seven points in a 14-2 spurt spanning less than three minutes early in the 4th quarter as the University of New England extended towards a 71-56 women's basketball win over New England College on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 6) at Bridges Gymnasium.
Goodman finished with career-best 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. In the fourth game of her rookie season, Jordyn Franzen matched Goodman's 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. Both had 17 following halftime. It was the most combined points for UNE's top two scorers in over five years, since February 20, 2016 (Alanna Vose 27, Alicia Brown 22).
Kaitlyn Santos added eight for the Nor'easters (3-1), who made half of their field goal attempts (23-for-46) to combat 24 turnovers.
UNE trailed by as many as seven (14-7) in the 1st frame, and again in the 2nd (29-22) before a Franzen trey closed the gap to four at the midway break. Franzen netted the initial hoop of the 3rd (29-27), and the difference never exceeded three, either way, for the rest of the period. Franzen capped the penultimate stanza with another basket, giving the visitors the lead for good (44-43).
It was 49-46 when Santos netted a three-point play at the 7:31 mark, starting the deciding stretch. Goodman and Franzen did the rest of the damage over the next 2:22, as the Nor'easters assumed a 63-48 cushion.
Ericka Pratt guided the Pilgrims (1-4) with 19 points, and Asia Jones had 11. NEC ended up on the wrong side of a 39-29 rebounding gap, and shot just 33 percent (20-for-60) in the game.
UNE had dominated Friday's matchup between the teams, claiming a 69-38 victory.
