Women’s Basketball: Titans Drop Road Bout to Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 63-58, against Chatham University on the road Saturday afternoon.

Westminster (4-3) jumped out to a quick 13-7 lead over Chatham (3-4), capped off by a three-pointer by sophomore Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) with 4:41 left in the first frame. The Titans held a 21-14 advantage after one. In the second quarter, Westminster extended its lead to 14 (31-17) after a three-ball from first-year Mariah Vincent (Franklin Pike, PA / Kennedy Catholic) with 4:14 left in the half. Chatham answered with a 9-2 run and went into intermission trailing the Titans, 33-28.

In the third quarter, Chatham vaulted into the lead, outscoring the Titans 23-9 in the period and led 52-41 after three. Westminster made it interesting, as it got within two (54-52) with 3:12 remaining. However, Chatham responded with an 8-2 run and kept the Titans at bay for the remainder of the contest.

The Titans were led by sophomore Lindsay Bell (Youngstown OH / Ursuline), who scored a career-high 16 points and had a game-high 11 rebounds (first career double double). Murrio followed with 12 points, five boards and four assists. Junior Megan Meyer (New Galilee, PA / Mohawk) and first-year Katie Fitzpatrick (Cumberland Center, ME / Greely) each contributed 11 points and four rebounds
For the game, Chatham narrowly out-shot Westminster 41.1% (23-56) to 39.7% (23-58) and bested the Titans from long range 37.5% (9-24) to 29.4% (5-17). Westminster held the advantage in the rebounding category (44-28).

Westminster is next scheduled to play Saint Vincent College on the road on Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m.
