Benedictine Women Break Wins Record

RIVER FOREST, IL - The Benedictine University women's basketball team wrapped up the outright Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship while breaking the single season record for wins at Concordia Chicago on Wednesday night.

THE DETAILS
Benedictine scored the first four points of the game on back-to-back layups from Allison Michalski and never trailed in the contest
The lead grew to double figures at 14-4 on another basket from Michalski halfway through the opening quarter
The hosts whittled the deficit down to just six points early in the second quarter before Britney Pitzer opened a 9-0 run with a three-pointer and Alex Fanning deposited a layup to make the score 31-15 with 4:36 left in the half
Another three from Pitzer, one of the top three-point shooters in the nation, extended the lead to 34-17 moments later
Reggie Much scored the first five points in a 7-0 run to close the half as Benedictine went into the break with a 43-21 lead
Benedictine led by as many as 32 points in the third quarter
Concordia Chicago did not go away, pulling within 10 points late, but the deficit was too much to overcome
Benedictine has won 15 games in a row
The team bettered last season's record win total of 21 victories

Benedictine posted a blistering first half, shooting 61 percent in the first and 55.5 percent in the second, finishing the game at 45.9 percent
Benedictine held a 50-28 lead on the glass and scored 38 points in the paint
Four players scored in double figures led by Michalski, who netted 25 to go with 11 rebounds
Fanning notched a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds along with four assists and two blocks
Hanna Piro and Pitzer each finished with 11 points as the starters scored all but 13 points
