Gwynedd Mercy Women Use Big Quarter To Push Past Pacers

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA.  Gwynedd Mercy used a 40-point third quarter to help notch their season-high fifth win in a row with a 103-75 Atlantic East victory over Marywood Wednesday evening at The Griffin Complex.

The Griffins led by nine after the first and 12 at the half (49-37) before exploding with a 60% shooting effort (15-of-25) while hitting six of their 14 three-pointers in the frame.

Four players reached double figures led by Haley Crossley with a game-high 17 points. Elise Sylvester (13 points), Emma Keal (12 points), and Tamia Wessels (11 points) all helped GMercyU reach the century mark for the fourth-straight game in a row and seventh this season. For Keal, the 12 points were a career high.

Chyanne Fine pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, one shy of tying a personal best. Wessel added five steals and four assists while Tolu Omole, Denise Sacco, and Jill Kane all hit three three's apiece in the win.

Olivia Kosin paced Marywood with 16 points while Aryah Aungst had 14 and Katie Wolfgang netted 15. Wolfgang snared 11 boards with teammate Cait Reilly adding 10.

Gwynedd got out to a 17-7 lead and later a 28-11 score in the first and looked to pull away but Marywood put together a 9-1 run to close the quarter get to 29-20. A jumper from Wolfgang early in the second made it a four-point game but threes from Sacco and Fine kept the Pacers in their rearview mirrors.

Sylvester's three-point play in the third swelled the lead to 63-43, but Marywood gave it one last push to get it to 71-55. An 18-7 spurt to close the quarter kept the advantage as the team won its 11th game on the season.

The team returns to action on Saturday as they host Cabrini in an Atlantic East matchup starting at 1 p.m.
