Johns Hopkins led by just two after a closely contested first period, 15-13, before beginning to grow their lead in the second. Leading 21-17 with less than seven minutes to play in the half, the Blue Jays ripped off a 9-0 run, sparked by a three-pointer from Howie at the 6:26 mark. Howie flipped in a layup about a minute later, extending the lead to 26-17 before a pair of buckets from Oden gave Hopkins their biggest first half lead, 30-17. The Green Terror scored the final four points of the quarter over the last minute and change, cutting the deficit to nine at the break.
At the 4:12 mark of the third quarter, Hannah Zajac knocked down a pair of free throws, cutting the deficit to five. JHU responded with an 8-0 run over the next minute and a half, getting a three-point play from Kristin Ralston, a transition three from Maggie Wodicka and a fastbreak layup from Oden to push the lead to 42-29. Wodicka's three extended the lead to 11 and the Blue Jays never led by less than 11 the rest of the way.
With just over 4:30 to play, Oden knocked down her first triple of the night, extending the lead to 16 and sparking another 8-0 run. The sophomore guard followed it up with another layup before Howie hit her career-high fifth triple of the game to give Johns Hopkins their biggest lead of the night, 61-40.
The Blue Jays shot 48.1 percent from the floor in the contest, their second best shooting effort of the season. The nation's 20th-best scoring defense, Hopkins once again held their opponent to 50 points or less, the ninth time they've done so this season.
