Strong Second Half Ignites Gwynedd Mercy Over Neumann

GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy outscored Neumann 59-36 in the second half to pull away from the Knights, 96-66, Wednesday night in an Atlantic East Conference matchup at The Griffin Complex.

Sydney Thompson helped ignite the win by scoring 14 of her game-high 20 points in that second half. Tamia Wessels added a season-best 19 points as the Griffins shot over 62% in the third quarter, finding their shooting touch, as part of a 35-19 frame to lead by 23 points heading into the final stanza.

Terea Hunt and Tierra Harris each had 16 points of the bench for the Knights. Neumann, however, committed 43 turnovers that led to 37 Griffin points.

Thompson and Crossley led the rebounding charge with six apiece as the team won the battle on the glass, 55-52. Tolu Omole filled out the stat sheet with seven points, five assists, and a career-best five steals.

The Knights hung around in the first half as GMercyU led by as much as 14 (37-23) with 1:46 before the break. Neumann scored the final seven points to cut it to a 37-30 score at halftime before the Griffins opened the third quarter on a 17-6 run.

Gwynedd Mercy looks to keep their momentum rolling forward when they travel to Immaculata on Saturday for an AEC contest.
