Women’s Basketball slips past Potsdam, 77-73

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) and Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) combined for 44 points and 16 rebounds as Buffalo State closed the contest on a 12-3 run en route to its second come-from-behind victory of the weekend with a 77-73 win over Potsdam this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • LeBaron led all scores with 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds and five steals.
  • Villarini added 17 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Tori Hackett (Canandaigua/Canandaigua) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Anasah DeMember (Elmira/Elmira) finished with nine points and three steals.
  • Buffalo State and Potsdam traded points for the majority of the first quarter, until a late layup by LeBaron with 11 seconds left gave the Bengals a 21-20 edge at the first intermission.
  • After Buffalo State extended its lead to 27-20 at the midway point of the second stanza, Potsdam closed the first half on a 8-2 run to take a 34-33 halftime lead.
  • The Bengals outscored the Bears 23-20 in the third frame to reclaim the lead and hold a 56-54 lead at the final intermission.
  • Potsdam responded with an early run in the final frame to take a 70-65 lead with 4:47 left in the contest.
  • Buffalo State closed the contest on a 12-3 run to complete the weekend sweep.
  • The Bengals held advantages in points off of turnovers (24-15), bench production (11-4) and fast-break points (18-15)
FOR THE FOES
  • Devyn Elliott led the Bears with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Dyamon Hunter added 10 points and a game-high 13 assists.
  • Jakia Howard chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds.
