Kopp's School-Record 42 Leads #5 DePauw to 12th Straight Win

Delaware, Ohio - DePauw senior Sydney Kopp scored 15 straight points for the Tigers in a 3:06 stretch of the third period and finished with a school-record 42 as DePauw won its 12th straight with a 73-53 North Coast Athletic Conference victory at Ohio Wesleyan. The fifth-ranked Tigers moved to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in the NCAC, while the Battling Bishops dropped to 8-8 overall and 3-4 in conference play.

Kopp's 42-point performance broke Jenny Bauer's 40-point record established against Huntington on Feb. 2, 1985, and tied the Branch Rickey Arena mark set by Ohio Wesleyan's Arden Kragalott on Feb. 16, 1979.

The Tigers never trailed in the contest and held leads of 13-8 after the first quarter and 26-21 at the intermission. Kopp entered the third period with 12 points including eight in the first and four in the second.

Ohio Wesleyan was still within five at 34-29 before Kopp nailed back-to-back 3-pointers and a jumper to push the lead to 42-29 with 3:31 left in the period. The Bishops broke the run with three straight, but Kopp knocked in a jumper, a trey and a layup on three consecutive possessions over a 52-second span. The Tigers took a 51-39 advantage into the final period as Kopp finished the stanza with 17.

Kopp put together another string of 10 straight points to push the lead to 63-45 with 6:07 left. After Hayley Cange nailed a basket, Kopp broke the school mark with a 3-pointer at the 4:19 mark.

Kopp nailed 15 of 19 from the field including 8 of 12 from 3-point range and hit all four free throws while grabbing seven rebounds. Her 30 points in the second half broke the school mark for a half of 24 which she shared with Bauer. Kopp also moved ahead of Amy Argetsinger (2001-05) and into third on DePauw's all-time scoring list as she now has 1,457. Cange followed with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the win and Maura Fitzgerald dished out five assists.

Cierra Joiner paced Ohio Wesleyan with 16 points and six boards, while Leah Maniaci added 10 points.

DePauw shot 50 percent from the floor and hit 8 of 15 from beyond the arc, while Ohio Wesleyan knocked in 32.2 percent and just 6 of 25 from 3-point range. The Tigers also held a 47-23 edge on the boards.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, with a 1 p.m. NCAC contest at Kenyon.
