Cortland Women Deadly from Long Range in 69-41 Win vs. Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Beth Bonin (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse), Sarah Tully (East Aurora) and Shannon McGuire (West Babylon) each scored in double figures and accounted for 12 of Cortland's season-high 14 3-pointers as the Red Dragons won at home over Oneonta, 69-41, to improve to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the SUNYAC.

Bonin made five 3-pointers and finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Tully made her first five shots and finished 5-for-6, including 3-for-3 from 3-point range, for 13 points. She also contributed four rebounds and three assists. McGuire connected on 4-of-7 3-pointers and ended with 12 points and team highs of eight rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Also for Cortland, Meghan Flanagan (Rochester/Brighton) finished with seven points and five rebounds and Nyia Longford (Medford/Longwood) totaled six points and five rebounds.

Cortland's 14 made 3-pointers were one shy of tying the school single-game record set in the 2005-06 season.

Lauren Obermayer scored 10 points as the lone double-figure scorer for Oneonta (3-8, 0-4 SUNYAC). Clara Culeton finished with eight points, six rebounds and three blocks and Casey Hayes had six points, five rebounds and two assists.

Cortland led 18-8 after one quarter and 31-22 at the half. Oneonta was still within nine at 41-32 after Culeton's layup with 1:53 left in the third. Bonin, however, made a 3-pointer with 1:32 remaining and the hosts took a 44-32 advantage into the final period.

Culeton made a layup just over a minute into the fourth to cut the deficit to 10, but Cortland outscored the guest Red Dragons 21-4 over the next seven minutes to salt away the game. McGuire made three 3-pointers during that stretch.

Cortland finished the game at 38 percent overall from the field but 41 percent (14-of-34) from the arc, and the Red Dragons held Oneonta to 29 percent shooting overall and 18 percent (2-for-11) from 3-point territory.

Cortland will travel to Oswego Saturday for a 2 p.m. SUNYAC game.
