How it Happened
The Johns Hopkins defense was stellar from the start, holding the Red Devils to just two first quarter points in a 51-40 victory on Thursday night.

The Blue Jays led for 37:37 after Lyndsey Hoyd started the scoring with a three-point field goal just over two and a half minutes into the contest. Dickinson shot just 25.8 percent from the contest in the defeat.

Diarra Oden led Johns Hopkins with 16 points on six-of-10 shooting and Emily Howie added her first career double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.

Howie and Aleah Spruell both followed Hoyd's lead with three-pointers of their own in the first quarter, giving Hopkins a 9-0 lead before Hannah Heiring was finally able to get Dickinson on the board with 1:01 to play in the quarter. Jess Sweeney found Elise Moore for an open layup on the next possession and the Blue Jays took an 11-2 lead into the second.

Howie hit her second three of the game at the 6:58 mark in the second before Oden followed with a triple of her own less than a minute later, giving the Blue Jays a 20-6 lead with just over six minutes to play in the first half. The Red Devils were unable to cut the lead below 12 points for the rest of the period and the Blue Jays took a 26-14 lead into the locker room.

In the third, Moore gave Hopkins their biggest lead of the contest, 32-16 after converting a layup. The Red Devils, however, began to chip away, holding Johns Hopkins scoreless over the final 5:52 of the third quarter, cutting the deficit to seven. Howie scored the first five points of the fourth quarter, extending the lead back up to 12. With just over five minutes remaining, Oden hit her second three of the game, extending the lead once more to 16 points before the Blue Jays ultimately came away victorious.
