Sewanee Women’s Basketball Defeated at Maryville

MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team opened the 2020 portion of the schedule with a 76-47 setback at Maryville College on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite the Tigers making the first four points of the game, the Scots went on a 15-1 run in a little over six minutes before Raquel Waller made back-to-back jumpers to make it a 15-9 deficit.

-After a triple made by Maryville, the home team led 18-9 after the opening quarter.

-That shot from downtown was the spark that put the contest away for Maryville, as the team held Sewanee scoreless for almost six minutes and used a 17-2 run to lead, 35-11, with 3:27 left in the half.

-The Scots led 37-16 at the break and held the visitors to a 6-of-22 (27.3%) from the field in the first 20 minutes.

-However, Sewanee posted 24 points in the third stanza on 10-of-18 (55.6%) shooting, as eight different Tigers scored in the frame.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Kinsley Logan led the Tigers with 14 points, while Bella Bombassi posted eight points and seven boards.

-Ashley Stewart tabulated five rebounds and added four assists.

MARYVILLE KEY STATISTICS
-Klaire Varney had a game-high 32 points in 26 bench minutes, while Elsa Eckenrod added 14 points.
