COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Sewanee women's basketball team suffered a 52-44 loss to the Owls of the Mississippi University for Women on Wednesday night from Pohl Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sewanee opened the contest with two straight layups by Abby Young, but the teams would be even at 11 points apiece after one quarter of play.
-Despite the Owls temporarily reclaiming the lead, the Tigers were able to tie the contest twice in the second quarter. After Camryn Broussard made a jumper with a little over two minutes left in the half, the hosts finished the half on an 8-0 run to lead 32-24 at the break.
-MUW would push the lead to 14 in the third quarter before Sewanee could sink a basket at the three-minute mark in the quarter.
-Sewanee was able to cut the deficit to three points with 3:36 left in regulation thanks to a Kinsley Logan jumper, but the Mississippi University for Women held off the late charge.
-For the contest, the Tigers posted 43 rebounds and outscored the Owls in the paint, 24-18.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Abby Young was the only player from Sewanee in double figures, as the sophomore finished with 10 points.
-Kinsley Logan and Ellie Treanton each contributed nine points. Treanton added five boards and four steals.
-Bella Bombassi corralled 10 boards, five on the offensive glass.
MUW KEY STATISTICS
-Kyla Temple led the Owls with 13 points, while Christianna Harris and Briona Green each added 12 points.

Sewanee returns to the hardwood on Saturday in the Tigers' Southern Athletic Association opener against Centre College. Tip is scheduled at 1 p.m. from Juhan Gymnasium.
