Nor'easters triumph over Endicott, 75-70

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Sadie Nelson produced 14 1st-quarter points as the University of New England led wire-to-wire in a 75-70 victory over Endicott College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball action Wednesday night (Dec. 4) at MacDonald Gymnasium.

The Nor'easters move to 6-2 with the result (2-0 CCC), while the Gulls drop back to 2-4 overall (0-1 CCC).

It was a season-high in one period for Nelson, who finished with a game-best 18 on 5-for-7 accuracy from the field and a 4-of-4 effort at the line. Kaylee Beyor added a personal-best 15 points prior to fouling out, and Jocelyn Chaput went for 13 points, six assists, and three steals. Madalyn Sanborn totaled six points and led all players with six rebounds, helping the visitors to a 39-27 advantage on the boards.

On top of being slightly more efficient shooting the ball, UNE dialed up a 28-for-33 performance at the charity stripe to out-score the hosts by 16 points.

Nelson drained four triples in the opening frame to stake the Nor'easters out to a 26-15 cushion, which then increased to its peak of 19 in the middle of the 2nd stanza (36-17). The margin remained comfortable well into the 4th (70-54), aided by seven from Beyor out of the team's initial 13 in the final session.

Endicott did not go down quietly, however, putting together an 11-0 spurt in less than three minutes to trim the deficit to 70-65 with 54 seconds left. UNE made 5-of-6 freebies in the waning moments to seal the outcome, though.

The Gulls had five reach double figures in scoring, topped by Emily Pratt with 16. Kaleigh Putnam recorded 13 points and six steals, and Shannon Gilbert tossed in 12 points. Both Mikaela Rogers and Lexi Gellerman posted 10 points.
