Baruch Stays Perfect (5-0), Narrowly Defeat Cobleskill in Exciting Finish

Nia Dawson scored a career-high 25 points to lead four players in double-figure scoring to help record a narrow 72-71 non-conference home win against SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats controlled the first two quarters leading 37-30 and managed to build a 60-43 advantage with 2:55 left in the third quarter.

Things quickly changed as Cobleskill went on a furious 19-2 rally to tie the contest at 62 with 6:33 remaining. That forced a tense final minutes.

The Bearcats managed to jump ahead again 70-65 on a short jumper by Melinda Spahiu with 3:50 left, but the visitors came back and took the lead 71-70 on a three by Nylasia Sutton at 2:04.

Neither team scored again until Daniela Zirpolo was fouled with 25 seconds left and calmly hit two free throws for the 72-71 lead.

Cobleskill had the final possession but missed a jumper in the waning seconds to hand the Bearcats the win and perfect 5-0 season record.

Frances Snyder scored 17 points, Spahiu finished with 16, and Daniela Zirpolo recorded her third-double of the season with 10 points, 11 rebounds, and career-high seven steals.

TyLysa Martinez led the Fighting Tigers from the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) with 19 points.
