McShea's 24 leads Marymount past Sea Gulls in fourth-straight win

SALISBURY, Md. – The Marymount University women's basketball team traveled to Salisbury University, defeating the former-Capital Athletic Conference foe, 61-48, at Maggs Physical Activities Center on Wednesday night.

The Saints found, early, success in the paint, scoring all of their first-quarter points on layups, outscoring the Sea Gulls, 19-8, in the frame.

Senior Gabriella Haddad and sophomore Katie McShea, each, netted four points, as Marymount took a, 10-4, lead in the first-four minutes.

McShea scored the final-seven points in the quarter for the Saints.

Marymount pushed its lead to 25-8 to start the second quarter, as junior Aidan Phillips hit two free throws, and McShea and junior Taylor Love made layups.

However, the Sea Gulls battled back with a 16-6 run in the final 6:29 of the half to cut Marymount's lead to 31-25 at halftime.

At the break, McShea posted a game-high 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting.

Salisbury tied the score, 33-33, to start the second half, but the Saints got going again, after two free throws from senior Abby Fisher. McShea followed with a layup, before freshman Symantha Shackelford knocked down a jumper to bring the Saints back ahead, 39-33.

Despite an even third quarter, the Saints held a 43-35 advantage heading into the fourth.

Layups from Haddad, Fisher, Phillips, and McShea to open the final quarter, brought the Saints back to a double-digit lead, 51-40. They did not look back from there, led by seven points in the period from Haddad, to earn their fourth-straight win to start the year.

McShea tallied her second-straight double-double, with 24 points and 10 rebounds in the game. Haddad, also, hit double-figures with 11 points, while Phillips added six points, six rebounds, and four assists.
