SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team suffered a 78-69 loss to the Blazers of Belhaven University on Friday night from Juhan Gymnasium in the team's home opener at the Sewanee Hoops Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Tigers came out strong in the opening quarter, pushing a 19-12 lead, as the Blazers were held to 22.7% (5-of-22) from the floor, including a 2-of-10 mark from downtown.
-Belhaven came back to tie the score at 31 points apiece because of their free-throw shooting, draining 11-of-13 (84.6%) from the charity stripe in the second 10-minute period.
-After a slow start on the offensive side of the ball, both teams came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. Sewanee held the advantage, 54-53, as they knocked down nine field goals to BU's eight.
-Belhaven stayed on pace in the third quarter thanks to its defense. The Blazers had six steals and forced five turnovers in the period to stay in the contest.
-Trailing early in the fourth period, Ellie Treanton made it a one-possession game, 61-59, with seven minutes left in regulation. However, the Blazers went on an 11-5 run in a four-minute span to seal the contest for the visitors.
-The Blazers forced 28 turnovers in the contest, and 27 points were scored because of the mistakes. BU posted 18 steals and scored 20 fastbreak points.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Treanton scored 24 points on 7-of-12 shooting. The sophomore dished out four assists in the game as well.
-Abby Young posted 15 points off the bench and added seven boards.
-Camryn Broussard corralled 10 boards and added six points.
BELHAVEN KEY STATISTICS
-Keke Lyles scored 26 points and added four steals.
-Peyton Papenburg scored 17 points and added 10 boards and five steals.

Sewanee will conclude the Classic on Saturday afternoon versus Johnson. Tip is scheduled for 3 p.m. inside Juhan Gymnasium.
