Keuka College's Season Ends in NEAC Semi-Finals

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost on Saturday in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Semi-Finals to Gallaudet University 60-54 at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College finished the season with a 19-6 record, tying for the ninth most wins in program history. Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) led the Wolves with 18 points. Jariah Johnson (New York, N.Y. / Frederick Douglas Academy) led the Wolves with nine rebounds and three blocks. Freshman Ameila Poole (Bloomfield, N.Y. / Bloomfield) added eight points for the Wolves.

Gallaudet University 60 at Keuka College 54 – NEAC Semi-Finals

The Wolves built an early lead by the Bison came back to tie it on Saturday. The two teams would match each other with five field goals and three free throws in the quarter as the game was tied 13-13 after one.

Gallaudet opened the second with four straight as the Bison took the lead, but the Wolves went on a run. Keuka College ripped off night straight points as they regained the lead. Laranjo gave the Wolves a five-point lead with a late jumper as Keuka College led 32-27 at the half.

Runs prevailed in the third quarter. Gallaudet scored seven straight against the Wolves as they led 41-36 midway through the quarter. The Wolves responded as Sam Laranjo hit a three to tie the game at 41-41 and Amelia Poole hit a three of her own on the next possession, giving Keuka a 44-41 lead and forcing Gallaudet to a timeout. Another layup by Laranjo capped the 10-0 run by the Wolves. The Bison scored the last three points of the quarter, but Keuka College carried a 46-44 lead into the fourth quarter.

Both teams had a slow start to the quarter. The Wolves made a basket and the Bison made four free throws to tie the game at 48-48 with 6:40 left to play. A layup by Gallaudet gave the Bison a 51-50 lead midway through the fourth, but Anna Hoover (Cape Vincent, N.Y. / Thousand Islands) answered with a jumper to regain the lead. The Green and Gold would extend their lead to 54-51 with three minutes left, but it would be the final bucket for the Wolves. Gallaudet finished the game on a 9-0 run, sealing the game from the free throw line as they defeated Keuka College 60-54.
