PITTSBURGH – Rochester struggled through a cold shooting night and Carnegie Mellon took full advantage in posting a 68-54 women's basketball victory over the Yellowjackets at Skibo Gym on Friday evening.
 
The loss gives Rochester an overall record of 9-14, 3-9 in the University Athletic Association. Carnegie Mellon is 12-11 overall, 3-9 UAA.
 
Rochester hit 28.4% from the floor (21-74), 30%  outside the arc (7-23). The individual statistical leaders were Julianna Okoniewski with 18 points and 12 rebounds, Tessa Ludwick with 14 points, and Lauren Foley with 12 points. Those came on four three-point goals. Lena Ethington grabbed 14 rebounds and Shannon Loiseau had eight.
 
Four players scored 10 or more for Carnegie Mellon. Caitlyn Clendenin had 16 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Katie Higgins tossed in 15 points with eight assists. Emily Archer scored 12, and Leah Weslock had 10. 

Carnegie Mellon hit 47% from the floor (26-55), 42% outside the arc (5-12), and made 69% of its shots from the line (11-16).
 
Rochester had 12 turnovers leading to 14 CMU points. The Tartans turned the ball over 13 times and UR scored 11 points. Rochester scored 13 second chance points on the strength of 20 offensive rebounds. Overall, UR had a 47-41 edge on the glass.
 
CMU opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to snap a 13-13 tie after one period. Five of the points came after Rochester turnovers. The lead grew to 10 on Jenn Mayberger's putback four minutes into the second period. Archer's jumper made it a 12-point lead (31-19) 90 seconds later.
 
A trey from Ludwick and a jumper by Ethington cut into the deficit, 33-28, with one minute left in the half. CMU led, 36-28, at halftime.
 
Okoniewski produced a traditional three-point play and Foley drained a three-pointer from left wing to chop the CMU lead down to 45-40 with 4:10 left. But the shooting turned cold again and CMU's 7-0 run that finished the quarter made it 52-40 with 10 minutes to play.
 
On Sunday, Rochester plays at Case Western Reserve which defeated Emory 63-58 in Cleveland. Emory comes to CMU.
