Nor'easters pull away from Scots, 73-52

WENHAM, Mass. -- Sadie Nelson chalked up 22 points to pace the University of New England in a 73-52 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball victory over Gordon College on Tuesday evening (Jan. 22) at the Bennett Center.

The Nor'easters (9-9, 7-3 CCC) received an additional 17 points and six rebounds from Ashley Coneys, with 11 points coming from Jocelyn ChaputSabrina Johnson chipped in with seven points for the visitors, who finished with a 14-point advantage at the free throw line and forced the Fighting Scots into 24 turnovers.

For Gordon (5-14, 2-8 CCC), Sarah Gibbs notched 18 points, 16 boards, and four blocks, and Brooke Dyson tossed in 12 points. The hosts posted a 34-24 cushion on the glass.

Early treys had the Scots in front (6-0, 11-8), but Chaput canned a triple to make it 16-13 in favor of UNE at the end of the 1st quarter. The Nor'easters went up by as many as nine (30-21) in the 2nd before settling on a 32-27 lead in the half.

Gordon managed to tie things at 32 and 34-all, only to see UNE take a 49-41 edge through 30 minutes. The Nor'easters blew the match open (65-43) in the 4th behind Coneys, who began the period with eight in-a-row to spur a 16-2 run in less than four minutes. She racked up a dozen points in the frame.
