Vinson Delivers Double-Double in WPI's NEWMAC Victory at Mount Holyoke

South Hadley, MA --- Junior center Spencer Vinson (Los Angeles, CA) recorded a game-best 15 points to lead WPI to a 60-38 victory over Mount Holyoke in NEWMAC women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers move to 10-12 and 5-9, while the Lyons slip to 1-22 and 0-14.

Vinson earned the double-double, posting a game-high 13 rebounds while adding an assist and a steal. Freshman Victoria Mirecki (Rock Tavern, NY) added 13 points and four caroms with an assist and a steal, while sophomore guard Caitlin Boermeester (Billerica, MA) had nine points and six boards. Freshman guard Alex Scariati (Scotch Plains, NJ) also had a solid game, posting six points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

For the Lyons, senior forward Leah Hodges (New Haven, CT) posted a team-high 10 points with four boards, two assists and a steal. Sophomore guard Raquel Fitzpatrick (Providence, RI) came off the bench to score eight points with a rebound, an assist, a steal and a block, while junior captain Katlyn Grover (Bernardston, MA) added six points, five boards, two assists and two steals.

WPI owned a 17-7 edge heading into the second quarter and the Lyons worked to fight back into the contest. Sophomore forward Julia Grey (Atlanta, GA) came off the bench to post four points, while rookie Mikayla McEwen (South Hadley, MA) had five points. Despite the momentum, the Engineers saw Mirecki and Boermeester each score five to maintain the lead.

Following halftime, WPI saw each of its starters post points, while Hodges tipped in six for the Lyons. Owning a 50-31 into the final 10 minutes, the Engineers closed out the contest with solid points and equally impressive defense for the victory.

Both teams return to NEWMAC action this week to close out the final week of regular season play. Mount Holyoke is at Clark, while WPI heads to Emerson. Both matches tip-off at 7pm.
