Maine Maritime Seniors Light it Up Against Beavers on Senior Night

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball cruised to a 55-34, victory over UMaine-Farmington on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.

Prior to the game the Mariners honored their senior players: Mikayla Charters (Newport, Maine), Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.), Amanda Holewiak (Somerset, Mass.) and Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine).

How it Happened: The Mariners held the Beavers to just nine points in the first quarter and five points in the second quarter to take a controlling 35-14 lead into halftime. 

The Beavers outscored the Mariners 11-10 in the third quarter, but the hosts maintained a 20-point lead heading into the final quarter and cruised to the victory. 

Inside the Numbers: Felix led the Mariners with a game-high 17 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal. 

McLean added 12 points, three steals, an assist and a rebound while Charters and Holewiak each chipped in with five points.

McKenna Brodeur led the Beavers with 10 points, five rebounds, a steal and a block. 

The Mariners shot 38.3 percent from the floor and held a 44-34 advantage in rebounds, while the Beavers shot just 22.2 percent on the night.

Up Next: With the victory, the Mariners improve to 16-6 on the season and 10-2 in the NAC, while the Beavers drop to 5-18 overall and 5-7 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow at 3:00 pm at Thomas College.
