ABINGTON, Pa. — It took two extra overtime periods, but the Keuka College Women's Basketball team defeated hosts Penn St.-Abington 76-72 in a hard-fought North Eastern Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon.
Keuka College (14-4, 9-1 NEAC) was led by Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park). The junior guard tied her career-high with 20 points and set a new personal best with nine rebounds. Brianna Legacy (Bennington, Vt. / Mount Anthony Union) added 19 points for the Wolves and Riley Record (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) added 10 as well.
Keuka College 76 at Penn St.-Abington 72 – 2OT
After a close open to the game, Riley Record hit a three for the Wolves to level the contest at 9-9. Over the final four minutes of the first, Penn St.-Abington outscored Keuka College 13-2 to lead 22-11 after the opening 10 minutes.
The Wolves responded with a huge second quarter. The Wolves erased the Nittany Lion lead with a 12-0 run over four minutes midway through the second. A layup by Brianna Legacy capped the run, giving Keuka a 26-24 lead. In total, Keuka College outscored Penn St.-Abington 22-6 in the quarter and led 33-28 at the half.
The Wolves maintained their lead in the third quarter. The Green and Gold would stretch it to nine points midway through the frame, the largest lead of the day for Keuka. Penn St.-Abington continued to fight, cutting the Keuka lead to five, 46-41 going into the fourth quarter.
The Nittany Lions hit a three to start the fourth, but the Wolves would not surrender their lead until the final seconds. Abington outscored Keuka 8-2 over the final 30 seconds of play, including a basket with two seconds left to tie the game at 60-60 and force overtime.
The Wolves took the early lead with a layup by Larano, but the Nittany Lions took the lead back on a three-pointer with three minutes left to play. Abington would hold a one-point lead with 20 seconds left, forcing the Wolves to foul. The Nittany Lions went 1-2 from the line. At the other end of the floor, Sam Laranjo made a layup to tie the game at 67-67 and send the game to a second overtime period.
The teams traded baskets early, but the period swung on a three-point play by Sam Laranjo to give the Wolves a 74-72 lead. A Nittany Lion offensive foul gave the ball back to the Wolves and a layup by Brianna Legacy stretched the lead to four at 76-72 with 1:29 left. Penn St-Abington missed both of their three point attempts down the stretch as the Wolves hung onto the 76-72 double overtime victory.

- Abby Hess (Cortland, N.Y. / Cortland) tied Laranjo for the team lead in rebounds with nine on the day. With that, she set a new career-best for rebounds in a single season
- Sarah Tyler (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) went a perfect 7-7 from the line for the Wolves
- Overall, the Wolves attempted 35 free throws, ninth-most in a single game in program history
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will travel from Abington, Pa. to Cobleskill, N.Y. to conclude their weekend road trip. Keuka College will face SUNY Cobleskill at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Keuka College swept the season series with the Fighting Tigers last season.
