Keuka College Falls in Final Seconds at SUNY Poly

MARCY, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost 65-64 on Wednesday night at SUNY Poly in a North Eastern Athletic Conference North Division matchup.

Keuka College (13-4, 8-1 NEAC) was led by Jariah Johnson (New York, N.Y. / Frederick Douglas Academy) with 17 points. Point guard Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) finished with 13 points and added eight rebounds and five assists for the Wovles.

SUNY Poly 65 vs. Keuka College 64

Keuka College and SUNY Poly played a tight first quarter with a pair of lead changes and the game being tied five times. The Wolves build a five-point lead midway through the quarter, the Wildcats responded. SUNY Poly put a seven-point run together to take a four-point lead themselves. The Green and Gold made baskets late as the game was tied 18-18 after 10 minutes.

The Wolves took an early lead in the second. The lead would bounce between the two teams multiple times in the frame. Keuka College would pull ahead late in the quarter and hold a 30-29 lead at halftime.

Keuka College came out of the locker rooms fast with points on their first three possessions as Keuka built a 35-29 lead. The Wolves would look to build a lead, but SUNY Poly used the long ball to stay in the game and take the lead. The third three of the quarter gave SUNY Poly a 45-39 lead. Sam Laranjo beat the buzzer with a three to end the third, but the host Wildcats carried a 48-44 lead into the final quarter.

Keuka opened the fourth with five straight, capped by a three-point play by Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) to give the Wolves a 49-48 lead. The three ball once again proved valuable to the Wildcats as they hit another one to regain the lead 52-51 with seven minutes left to play. The Wildcats grew a lead, but Riley Record cut it to one, 57-56 with four minutes left in regulation. On the next possession, Jariah Johnson got a put-back layup for the Wolves. Anna Hoover (Cape Vincent, N.Y. / Thousand Islands) followed it with a three-point play as the Wolves took a 61-57 lead. The Wildcats scored four straight to tie the game back at 61-61. After SUNY Poly took a 63-61 lead in the final minute, Riley Record (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) knocked down a corner three with 33.1 seconds left to play to give the Wolves a lead. The Wildcats made a layup to regain the lead. The Wolves had three chances in the final nine seconds, getting the ball back on a jump ball and a travel, but they were unable to score as they lost to SUNY Poly 65-64.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold face another tough test on the road on Saturday. Keuka College will travel to Penn St.-Abington. The Wolves have beaten the Nittany Lions on the road in each of the last two seasons.
