SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee women's basketball team ended Birmingham-Southern's five-game winning streak, but it did not come easy. The Tigers downed the Panthers in double overtime, 72-69, Friday night inside Juhan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-After trailing 15-11 after the opening quarter, the Tigers were looking for a strong second quarter. Trailing 19-17 with 3:22 left in the half, the Purple and Golf used an 11-3 run to end the period and take a 28-22 halftime lead into the locker room.
-The Tigers played a strong third quarter as they led 45-32, but the story changed in the fourth stanza. Led by eight points each by Christian McGowan and Derienne Black, the Panthers forced overtime.
-Sewanee tied the game at 57 with 31 seconds to go on an Abby Young layup.
-Trailing 59-57, the Tigers had the advantage in the first overtime period with a 7-0 run to lead 64-59 with 2:33 left in the extra session.
-BSC came crawling back, as they scored the final five points in OT to force a second overtime. Sewanee's Ellie Treanton attempted a game-winning jumper that was for not.
-In the second OT, just as in the first, Sewanee trailed to start the second extra session. Treanton drained a layup with 90 seconds to go to give Sewanee a 70-67 lead.
-BSC got within one on free throws, but the Tigers held the Panthers without a field goal for the final two minutes.
-The Tigers, leading the SAA in steals per game, recorded 11 steals and 20 points off of BSC's 21 turnovers.
DOUBLE OVERTIME NOTES
-This is the seventh game in Sewanee women's basketball history where a game has gone into double overtime, and this is the third straight year of a 2OT game.
-Prior to Friday night, the last double overtime win came Feb. 12, 2017 at Rhodes with a 95-91 win. The last win at home that went two extra periods came on Feb. 6, 2015 with a 89-83 win over Hendrix.
SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Treanton led all scorers with 20 points and seven rebounds.
-Kinsley Logan drained five 3-pointers for 15 points. The freshman played in 48 of the 50 minutes in the game.
-Bella Taylor dropped nine points and seven dimes.
-Katie Roth dropped nine rebounds, seven points and three steals and assists each.
-With two assists on Friday, Sue Kim surpassed Ashleigh Whitworth (C'05) for second all-time in assists in program history. Coming into the weekend tied for 19th among active NCAA Division III student-athletes, the senior now has 344. She will need 27 to match the school record set by Kayla Goodwin (C'02), who has 371.
BIRMINGHAM-SOUTHERN KEY STATISTICS
-Misa Fujii posted 16 points, while Emilee Olsen corralled a double-double in 49 minutes with 14 rebounds and 12 points.
