Felix Becomes All-Time Scoring Leader and Dagan Clinches 300th Career Win in Mariners' Victory Over UMF

FARMINGTON, Maine – Senior Alayne Felix (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored 12 points to surpass Michelle Gott-Miles and become the program's all-time scoring leader and Head Coach Craig Dagan secured his 300th career win as the Maine Maritime Academy women's basketball team cruised to a 66-47 victory over UMaine-Farmington on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Dearborn Gymnasium.

Felix, who started her Maine Maritime career by scoring double-digits in 92-consecutive games, moves into first all-time in scoring with 1,606 points, and is the all-time leader in field goals made with 608. Felix is also the program's leader in games started (97) and minutes played (2,910).

Dagan, captures his 300th career win as the head coach of the women's basketball team, boasting a 63.2 winning percentage in his 18 seasons at the helm of the Mariners.

How it Happened: The Mariners jumped out to a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter, but the two teams sat deadlocked at 10-10 with 2:45 remaining. Eryn Doiron (Wilton, Maine) hit a three with 32 seconds left to send the Mariners into the second quarter with a 13-10 edge.

Maine Maritime continued to build a lead and outscored the Beavers 21-12 in the second quarter to enter halftime with a 34-22 lead.

The Mariners picked up where they left off in the third quarter, taking a 53-31 lead into the final quarter and hung on for the conference victory.

Inside the Numbers: Megan McLean (Eliot, Maine) scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Mariners and also added five rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Both Felix and Melinda Ogden (Searsport, Maine) added 12 points, Felix contributed seven rebounds and three assists and Ogden chipped in with four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Doiron finished the night with 10 points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal. 

Molly Folsom led the Beavers with 11 points and three rebounds.

The Mariners shot 51.1 percent from the floor, while the Beavers shot 29.3 percent from the floor. The Mariners also held a 36-22 edge in rebounds.

Up Next: Maine Maritime improves to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the conference, while the Beavers drop to 5-13 on the season and 5-3 in the NAC. The Mariners return to action tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 when they host Thomas College at 3:30 pm.
