Keuka College Wins Big Against Cazenovia 78-52

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Women's Basketball team remained undefeated in North Eastern Athletic Conference play following Wednesday night's 78-52 victory over Cazenovia College at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Senior guard Lauren Anten (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) led Keuka College (12-3, 7-0 NEAC) with 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Also scoring in double-digits for the Wolves were senior Jariah Johnson (New York, N.Y. / Frederick Douglas Academy) and sophomore Brianna Legacy (Bennington, Vt. / Mount Anthony Union), each with 14 points apiece.

Keuka College 78 vs. Cazenovia College 52

Keuka College started on a 6-0 run out of the gate thanks to back-to-back layups by Sam Laranjo (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park). The Wolves dominated the paint and got their lead up to 10 in the first quarter following a layup by Anna Hoover (Cape Vincent, N.Y. / Thousand Islands). The Wildcats responded with an 8-0 run of their own, cutting the lead to two halfway through the quarter. Keuka and Cazenovia continued trading blows until the final minute of the first when Johnson made a free throw to put the Wolves up 21-15.

Johnson dominated the paint starting the second quarter with a quick layup to expand the lead to 23-15. Keuka continued their 16-point run. It was capped off by Abby Hess (Cortland, N.Y. / Cortland) converting an and-one giving the Wolves a 30-15 lead. Cazenovia brought the game back within single digits at 30-21, but the Wildcats were unable to stop the Wolves in the paint. At the half Keuka led 40-27 with 30 of their 40 points coming inside the paint.

Anten started off the second half with a steal and a fast break jumper to add to the lead. Keuka continued the defensive pressure forcing seven turnovers, pushing the lead to 50-29. The Green and Gold would end the quarter with a 55-39 lead as Abby Hess set up Lauren Anten for a three at the buzzer.

The Wolves would close it out in the final quarter. Keuka College outscored Cazenovia 23-13 in the last 10 minutes on their way to the 78-52 conference victory.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves remain at home this Saturday as they host the College of St. Elizabeth at 1pm. Keuka College is 8-3 all-time against the Eagles. They first met in the 1987-88 season. Keuka College won the last meeting with St. Elizabeth in the 2016-17 season.
