LaGrange's Marilauren Farr reaches 1,000 career points in 72-44 win over Johnson

Senior Marilauren Farr reached a career milestone as LaGrange rolled past Johnson University 72-44 in Mariotti Gym on Tuesday night. The Panthers upped their record to 9-7 with the non-conference win over the Royals (2-11).

"Real good team win tonight. We had a chance to get everyone in the game and let them contribute to the win," said Coach Lee Buchanan. "Our energy was real good and our defense was solid. We did a real nice job with our rebounding on both ends as well. Anytime you play solid defense, rebound the the ball and don't turn it over you have a chance to win."

Farr had game-highs of 16 points and 8 rebounds. She hit a jumper with 2:09 left in the first half to become the fifth LC women's player to reach 1,000 career points. It marked the second straight season a Panther has reached the milestone. Lauren Johnson finished her career last season with 1,092 points. Farr needs 42 rebounds to become the second Panther to have 700 in a career. 

"I was very pleased to see Marilauren score her 1,000 point of her career," Buchanan said. "She has worked very hard the last four years and I am very proud of her. Marilauren is a very good basketball player but more importantly she is a quality person. I know everyone in the locker room was excited for Marilauren."

LC never trailed in the game. The Panthers led 20-14 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 39-24 by halftime. The lead continued to increase in the second half as the Panthers led by as many as 32 points in the final period. LC finished with a 55-26 edge in rebounding, setting a season-high for rebounds. The Panthers outscored the Royals 44-12 in the paint. LC had a season-low 10 turnovers in the game. All 15 players on the roster played, with 13 breaking into the scoring column.

The Panthers host Wesleyan in a USA South game Wednesday at 6 p.m. They play at USA South foe Brevard on Saturday. The Panthers won the first meeting with Brevard 56-55 in overtime on Jan. 4 in Mariotti.
