ALBION, Mich. – Albion College ripped off eight points in 1:18 to build a double-digit lead in the first quarter, and it continued to extend the margin from there as it cruised to an 88-65 victory over Adrian College inside Kresge Gymnasium.

Albion improved to 11-2 overall and 4-1 against MIAA rivals. The Britons and Hope College trail Trine University (12-2 overall, 5-0 MIAA) by a game in the chase for first place in the league standings.

Next up for Albion is a Wednesday night home game against Calvin College. The tip is scheduled for 7:30 at Kresge Gymnasium.

After Rain Hinton split a pair of free throws, Albion scored on its next three possessions as Emily Bernas knocked down a 3-point basket, Sam Carter completed a fast break started by an Evelyn Wischmyer steal and Brooke Schutte tacked on a pair of free throws. Albion led 22-12 with four minutes left in the first quarter and it never looked back.

Albion led 34-21 at the end of the first quarter and 59-31 at halftime.

"We had a lot of energy and our focus was really good," Albion Head Coach Doreen Carden said. "I think we're playing with a lot of confidence."

Carden noted that Albion shot the ball well early. The Britons made 71 percent (12-of-17) of their shots from the field in the first quarter and 50 percent (9-of-18) in the second.

• Wischmeyer completed her third 20-point game of the season, finishing with 23 points. She had her best shooting performance of the season, knocking down 8-of-10 shots from the field.
• Wischmeyer also remained perfect at the free throw line in MIAA games this season. She was 4-for-4 against Adrian to push her to 13-for-13 in league games.
• Wischmeyer stuffed the box score with five rebounds, four steals and a season-high three blocks.
• Bernas (14 points, six rebounds, two assists), Carter (11 points, seven assists, two steals), and Hinton (13 points, three rebounds) were starters who also scored in double figures.
• Maija Gillum (11 points, six rebounds, three assists) and Schutte (nine points, two rebounds, one steal) provided support off the bench.
