ARLINGTON, Va. – The Marymount University women's basketball team picked up its second Atlantic East Conference victory on Saturday afternoon at the Converse Family Fieldhouse, taking down Gwynedd Mercy University, 84-47.

Junior Regan Lohr led the strong offensive performance with 22 points, while classmate Gabriella Haddad tied a career high with 19 points. As a team, the Saints finished the game shooting 53.8 percent from the field.

The Saints defense was stifling from the start, holding the Griffins to only 29.1 percent from the floor and not allowing any double-digit scorers; the Saints also forced 24 turnovers.

Leading 7-6 with 6:13 to play in the first quarter, Marymount opened up the game with a 14-0 run for a 21-6 lead on the way to a 24-8 opening quarter.

Sophomore Kathryn Ryan got things going with a layup, while freshman Katie McShea scored six points in the stint to lead the way. McShea finished the game with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Saints controlled the game from there, pushing the lead to 20-plus points in the second quarter, as senior Abby Fisher netted a layup for a 41-20 edge.

After the Saints took a 41-25 lead into halftime, the Griffins came out with energy in the second half, cutting the lead down to 13, 45-32, but that is the closest they would get.

Marymount pushed its lead back to 20 in the remainder of the third quarter, and capped the game with a 23-6 fourth quarter to pull away for good.

Lohr paced the Saints in the second half, scoring 12 of her points, while she also added nine rebounds in the game.

Freshman Bridgette Bonjo set a career high with six points in the contest, all coming in the fourth quarter.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday, January 9 on the road in Atlantic East action at Immaculata University; the opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
