Daytona Beach, Fla. - DePauw, ranked 21st in the latest d3hoops.com poll and 22nd in the coaches' rankings, never trailed on the way to a 65-35 win over Kean at the Daytona Beach Shootout. The Tigers moved to 7-2, while the Cougars dropped to 4-6.
The Tigers used a 10-0 run in the opening quarter to break a 7-7 tie on the way to a 17-10 lead after one quarter. Kean was still within three at 19-16 before DePauw closed the half on a 15-2 run to push the lead to 34-18 at the intermission.
Another 15-2 stretch to start the second half extended DePauw's lead to 29 points and secured the victory.
Sydney Kopp paced the Tigers with 23 points including 5-7 shooting from beyond the arc, while Maya Howard added 12 points. Hayley Cange grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and Howard dished out four assists and recorded three steals.
Payce Lange, Bre Spencer and Aniyah Moore each had six points for the Cougars with Leidy Laureano hauling down six rebounds and blocking four shots.
The Tigers shot just 31.8 percent from the field, but held Kean to 20.4 percent including 0-16 from 3-point range. DePauw held a 56-24 edge on the boards.
DePauw faces Stevenson tomorrow at 5 p.m.
