ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca College used a game-turning 11-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to spoil Rochester's upset bid on Tuesday evening. The Bombers went on to a 59-53 victory over the Yellowjackets in women's basketball.
 
It is Ithaca's fifth straight victory (6-1 overall) and snapped Rochester's four-game winning streak (4-5). UR is idle until the end of this month when the Yellowjackets play at the Otterbein College tournament.
 
Once again, the Yellowjackets used a strong defensive effort and a solid presence on the backboards. Lena Ethington collected a career high 18 rebounds, 13 off the defensive glass, and Julianna Okoniewski grabbed 11 rebounds.
 
Rochester didn't have a double figure scorer, but five players scored eight or more points. Ethington Camryn Fagan, and Lauren Foley had nine points apiece. Brenna James and Jamie Boeheim scored eight points. Tessa Ludwickscored six, and Okoniewski finished with four.
 
Cassidy O'Malley led Ithaca with 26 points. Annie Giannone scored 4 points and made four steals, several in the fourth quarter run. Grace Cannon led the hosts on the glass with 10 caroms. Ithaca is among others receiving votes in the current D3hoops.com poll.
 
UR couldn't find its shooting eye in the first 10 minutes and Ithaca jumped to a 16-8 lead. The Yellowjackets made only three baskets in the second quarter, but all three came outside the arc. UR was down by nine, 21-12, after an O'Malley free throw midway through the quarter. Fagan and Foley drained threes to cut the deficit to 22-189 with 3:19 left in the half. Ethington made two from the line to pull Rochester within 22-20. Giannone stole the ball and drove for a layup to beat the halftime buzzer and put IC up, 24-20, at the break.
 
In the third quarter, Boeheim scored four points in 24 seconds – she made two free throws, then a layup – to tie the score at 26-26. Foley and James hit treys to give Rochester the lead, 35-34, with 4:38 left. Okoniewski made four of four at the stripe and Ethington cashed in one free throw for a 40-34 lead with 1:23 left. IC made it a two-point game by sinking two free throws and a three-pointer.
 
Rochester stretched its lead to 46-42 after a layup by Fagan and a traditional three-point play by James. O'Malley kick-started the winning spurt with a four-footer off the right baseline, then made two free throws a minute later to tie the score. Giannone scored the last seven points in the burst, hitting a three-pointer at the top of the key, then stealing the ball for breakaway layups twice.
