NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – Senior Nicole Conley and junior Elly Vaughan both recorded double-doubles as the Union College women's basketball team doubled up Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in the fourth quarter to storm back for a 56-46 victory in non-conference action on Monday night at the Amsler Campus Center.
 
Conley led all players with 23 points, including 16 in the second half, and added 10 rebounds and six blocks for her fourth double-double of the season. Vaughan also recorded her first career double-double with 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting and 10 rebounds, while freshman Anna Metcalf added 10 points as well for the visitors, who improved to 5-2 on the year.
 
The first half was an offensive struggle for both sides, as turnovers and poor shooting plagued the Dutchwomen and Trailblazers. Union held an 11-7 lead after the first quarter, but MCLA outscored Union by a 22-10 margin in the second stanza to take a 29-21 lead into the half.
 
The visitors made their first move in the third quarter, outscoring the home team 15-7 to tie the game at 36 headed to the fourth. MCLA led by as many as 10 points early in the frame, but a pair of Conley threes and a Metcalf layup got Union quickly back within two at 31-29. The Dutchwomen then closed on a 7-1 run thanks to a three-point play from Metcalf and buckets from Vaughan and freshman Amber Raisner.
 
Union then took over in the fourth quarter, doubling up MCLA 20-10 to pull away with the win. Vaughan hit a pair of key layups early in the period, while Conley hit a big three to provide the final lead change of the night and put Union up 43-40 with 7:49 remaining. The senior then scored eight of the team's next 10 points to help build up a 52-43 lead with 3:38 on the clock, as she singlehandedly matched MCLA's fourth-quarter output to seal the win.
 
The Dutchwomen again proved themselves to be a tough team to beat down the stretch, hitting 13-of 23 shots (56.5 percent) in the second half while holding MCLA to 5-of-25 shooting (20.0 percent). For the game, Union shot 46.7 percent (21 of 45) from the field and limited the Trailblazers to a 17-for-54 (31.5 percent) effort.
 
After taking a break for the holidays, Union will look to close out 2018 on a good note on Sunday, December 30 when the Dutchwomen host Utica College at Viniar Athletic Center beginning at 2 p.m.
