William Paterson Holds off Stockton, 76-69, to Earn its Second Conference Win

WAYNE, N.J. – Senior guard Julie Rovito (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) finished with 17 points and four assists and the William Paterson women's basketball team (4-5, 2-3 NJAC) had four players score in double-figures in a 76-69 victory over Stockton (1-8, 0-5 NJAC) Dec. 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After spotting the Ospreys a slim 4-3 edge, WP controlled the action throughout the first quarter, opening a 22-15 lead after 10 minutes. Chloe Kasbarian (Midland Park, N.J./Midland Park) drained a pair of three-pointers as the Pioneers opened the second stanza on a 12-2 burst, increasing the advantage to 17 (34-17) as WP took a 41-26 lead into the locker room.
  • Following a back-and-forth third quarter, Rovito's deep three gave the home team its biggest lead of the game, 22 points (67-45) with 5:55 remaining. The Ospreys would use a 22-4 run to make it a four-point affair (71-67) , but five successful free throws in the game's final 29 seconds, three by Alisa Giordano (Wood-Ridge, N.J./Wood-Ridge) and two from Rovito, helped the Pioneers close out the Ospreys, 76-69.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Julie Rovito's (Ridgefield Park, N.J./Ridgefield Park) 17 points led all players, while Giordano and Brianna Brooks (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) each chipped-in 11. Kasbarian finished with 10 points, her second double-digit scoring output of the season.
  • WP outrebounded Stockton 42-39, including a 17-10 margin on the offensive glass. Vianca Soriano(New Milford, N.J./New Milford) pulled down a game-high nine boards and added seven points.
  • William Paterson forced 27 Stockton turnovers, converting the Osprey miscues into 31 points.
