WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Blues recognized the hot hand early and fed their leading scorer all night. Makana Stone made good on her handouts, scoring one off her season high with a game-best 25 points on 12-18 shooting to pace the Whitman College women's basketball team to a 99-60 win over Colorado College Friday night in the Kim Evanger Raney Memorial Classic.

Mady Burdett had the stroke as well, shooting 5-7 from beyond the arc for 21 points with Taylor Chambers stuffing the stat sheet off the bench with 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Jade Odom led three Colorado College (4-4) players in double figures scoring 17 points while grabbing eight rebounds, also a team high. Mckenzee Gertz scored 15 points and Casey Torbet added 10 more off the bench.

Whitman (6-2) broke an 11-11 tie in the first quarter, reeling off 16 unanswered points to close the quarter. Chambers found her groove late in the run, draining a pair of three pointers before handing out an assist to Maegen Martin just before the quarter ended.

The run continued early in the second quarter with buckets from Natalie Whitesel and Brittaney Van Buren to push the run and lead to 20 points. Odom finally broke the scoring draught for the Tigers with her jumper with 7:08 to play in the half. Whitman led by as many as 26 points after a Stone jumper, but CC would close the gap before halftime. Nia Duplain hit a pair of jumpers inside of the final minute as part of a period-closing 8-2 Tiger run to close the half.

CC kept the deficit at 16 points when Odom's jumper made it 61-45 with 4:48 to play in the the third quarter. The Blues would take control from there, scoring 12 unanswered to end the quarter and take a 28 point lead into what turned out to be an elementary fourth quarter.

The Blues return to the court for their second and final game of the Classic, hosting No. 4 Thomas More who topped Whitworth to open the tournament. Tip at the Sherwood Center is set for 4:00 p.m.
