CCNY Fends Off Late Baruch Rally to Win 68-63

The Baruch College Bearcats opened up their CUNYAC conference play against the CCNY Beavers in a 68-63 loss at home.

The Beavers controlled the game early on, leading by as much as 14 points in the first half. However, the Bearcats put together a heroic rally late in the 4th quarter to take back the lead 61-59 courtesy of 5 unanswered points by Valsenia Michie. CCNY's free throw shooting in the last minutes of the game helped them clinch the win.

The Bearcats' scoring was led tonight by Melinda Spahiu, who had 17 points, eight rebounds, and seven steals. Samantha Genco had a line of 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

For CCNY, they were led by Ashley Brooks with a double-double of 27 points and 17 rebounds.

Baruch will continue their schedule on the road against conference opponent Hunter College on Friday December 7th at 5:30 pm at the Hunter Sportsplex.
