LOS ANGELES — Emily Leonard led the Occidental women's basketball team to an easy win, 92-55 over St. Katherine at Rush Gym on Saturday afternoon.
Leonard, who's been a key forward for the Tigers in each of the past two seasons, is starting to hit her stride. The junior from Tualatin, Ore. scored 16 points on 7-11 shooting, with four rebounds, five steals and a block in 24 minutes played. She's averaged 7 ppg, 5 rpg and 1 bpg in 49 career games at Oxy.
Leonard had lots of help. Mallory North had 14 points on 4 for 7 shooting from the 3-point line and six rebounds, Alyssa Ramlochan had 10 points, four assists and five rebounds, Raveena Dhiman had 15 points, five rebounds and three steals, and Chelsea Brooks added 11 points, rounding out five Oxy players in double figures. Madison Toy also had six points, seven assists and three steals, Taylor Yoshida chipped in five points and seven assists, and Kaleinani Nallira scored nine points.
It's the second time Oxy's beaten St. Katherine this season. The Tigers won big in the first meeting 74-57 on Nov. 10 in the team's season opener.
Oxy opened big leads at the end of the first quarter (29-14) and the end of the first half (53-26), deciding the game early in the contest.
The Tigers took care of the ball with just nine turnovers and were outstanding from the floor, shooting 54 percent overall and 47 percent from the 3-point line.
Keondra Smith led St. Katherine with 22 points and Amber Barnett added 11. Monae' Hobson added nine points and 12 rebounds, and Kylie Chan had nine points and six rebounds.
Season Impact: The Tigers improve to 5-3 overall on the season.
Next Game: Oxy is back in action on Dec. 5, playing La Verne in its second SCIAC game of the year at 7 p.m. at Rush Gym.
