BRONX, N.Y. – The Union College women's basketball team scored the game's first 23 points and held Lehman College off the scoreboard for the first 23:07 of the contest as the Dutchwomen rolled past the Lightning 57-9 in non-conference action at the APEX Center on Tuesday night.

The nine points allowed are the fewest in a game in school history, breaking the previous mark of 10 set in a 62-10 victory over Bard College on January 14, 2012. The defense also set new program standards for fewest field goals allowed (four) and field-goal percentage against (.075), as the Dutchwomen limited Lehman (0-4) to 4-of-53 shooting from the field, including a 1-of-23 mark from beyond the arc.

Union (2-1) shook off a rough first half to finish the game shooting 42.1 percent (24-for-57) from the field, thanks to a second half in which the visitors hit 17-of-31 attempts (.548). Senior Nicole Conley and freshman Darby Leid both outscored the opponents themselves with 13 points apiece, with Conley adding 15 rebounds for her second straight double-double.

The Dutchwomen tied an NCAA record by leading for the entire 40 minutes of action, as an administrative technical before the game allowed Conley to sink a free throw before the clock had started. Leid followed four seconds later with a layup, while junior Joana Santos added two points and freshman Amber Raisnerchipped in three to put Union up 8-0 after one quarter.

Union again held Lehman off the scoreboard in the second quarter, as the Lightning finished the opening 20 minutes 0-for-25 from the field. Conley had six points, Leid added three and freshman Anna Metcalfhad two as the visitors went into the half with a 19-0 edge.

The shutout bid ended 3:08 into the third quarter, but Union still managed to extend its lead to 38-5 thanks in part to eight points from Leid. The Dutchwomen put up another 19 points in the final frame, paced by six points from freshman Laura Vinton and five from Metcalf.

Union will carry its momentum into the start of Liberty League play on Friday, when the Dutchwomen head to Geneva to take on William Smith College beginning at 5 p.m.
