Stout moves to 5-0 with 70-62 win over Albion

CHICAGO, Ill (November 24, 2018) – Amber Fabeckscored a double-double, Kyncaide Diedrich scored a team-high 21 points and UW-Stout fought off a second half rally by Albion College to take a 70-62 win Saturday to run their season record to 5-0 at the North Park University Tournament.
 
The Blue Devils led from the get-go in a battle of undefeated teams and ran out to a 35-23 halftime lead, but Albion (3-1) outscored Stout 21-14 in the third quarter to pull to within five points, 49-44, at the end of the third stanza.
 
Albion opened the fourth quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 52-49 lead.
 
Stout's Fabeck answered by stepping outside to hit a 3-pointer to tie the scored at 52, then gave Stout the lead with a jumper as Stout went on a 9-0 run to lead 59-52.
 
The Britons got as close as 61-60 with 1:24 remaining, but Diedrich completed a three-point play and the Blue Devils ended the game on a 9-2 run, making the next four free throws down the stretch and Diedrich added a layup for a 10 point lead with only seconds remaining.
 
Fabeck scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Diedrich was 8 of 23 from the floor, hitting two 3-pointers and all three free throws for her 21 points. Diedrich added seven rebounds. Shannan Watkins scored 1 points, making 3 of 4 shots from the floor, two 3-pointer and both free throw attempts.
 
Albion was led by Sam Carter, who led all scorers with 24 points. Rain Hinton added 10 points.

The 5-0 start matches Stout's best start since the 2006-07 season when Stout also opened at 5-0. 
 
The Blue Devils will play Berea (Ky) College in the championship game Sunday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. Berea defeated host North Park, 67-60, in the tournament opener.
