Gwynedd Mercy Takes Home Battle of 309 Crown

GLENSIDE, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy fought off Arcadia, 77-65, in the 2018 edition of the Battle of Route 309 Tuesday evening.

Olivia Roseman led all scorers with 20 points with teammate Denise Sacco adding a career-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting along with three three-pointers. Four Griffins would finish in double figures on the night as Susan Bossler added 13 and Chyanne Fine chipped in 11 respectively.

Down six late in the first, Sacco used the longball to help knot things up at 17-17 after the first 10 minutes. She scored the first bucket of the second to give GMercyU its first lead. A 14-5 run to end the half, capped by a big three from Roseman gave Gwynedd a 42-34 lead at the break.

The team held the Knights to just three field goals in the third as their lead swelled to as high as 16 (56-40) late in the stanza.

Arcadia ran off an 18-7 run to start the fourth, pulling them within two (65-63) with just two minutes in the contest. Gwynedd helped ice the contest, hitting 12-of-14 attempts from the free throw line.

On the glass, the Griffins outrebounded Arcadia, 46-39, led by a career-high 11 from Sydney Thompson. Thompson and Roseman each dished out three assists.

Courtney Hoffman netted 15 points for the Knights as she was one of four players to hit double digits.

GMercyU now holds a 3-1 edge in the series, claiming their first win in Glenside.

Gwynedd Mercy is back at it on Saturday when they head to Misericordia for the Sisters of Mercy Tournament. The Griffins play Mount Aloysius on Saturday before taking on Salve Regina on Sunday.
