Geistfeld Has Career Game For Hamline in Loss to Bethany Lutheran

More news about: Hamline

Two games in 22 hours proved to be no obstacle for HU women's basketball forward Reilly Geistfeld. The junior scored a career high 28 points -- just seven less than she achieved in the first three games of the season -- in the Pipers' 78-70 loss to Bethany Lutheran Saturday at Hutton Arena. Geistfeld connected on 10 of 16 shots -- including four from six from three-point range -- to pace the Piper offense. Her previous high game was 24 at Crown in the season opener last year.  Chan'el Anderson-Manning added 10 and a team high seven rebounds but HU dropped to 3-1 overall on the season.

Hamline continued to pester their foes. BLC coughed up 27 turnovers, running the early count to 127. Hu also forced the Vikings into tough three-point tries of which they only made four of 15. But the Vikings were able to get points in the paint and fast break baskets to pull ahead in the second half and gain the win.

It was an uphill battle early for HU. The Vikings jumped to ma 14-3 lead after six minutes only to see Hamline claw back and grab a five-point lead at 21-16 four minutes into the second quarter. BLC came back to tie the game and it rocked back and forth from there with Geistfeld's free throw with two seconds left giving Hamline a 35-34 intermission bulge. BLC broke away from a 40-all tally with nine unanswered midway in the third quarter. HU rallied back within a pair at 51-49 and eventually tied the game at 66 when Sophie Findell nailed a three-pointer. The Vikings, however, scored the next six points and the Pipers simply couldn't catch up.

Ham,ine now heads on the road for the first this year on Tuesday, November 20 at Wis-Stout. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
