HENRIETTA, NY – Home standing RIT exacted some revenge after the University of Rochester ended its season last year, winning 70-59 over the Yellowjackets in the season opener in 2018-19.

RIT improves to 2-0 on the young season, while Rochester falls to 0-1, losing its season opener for the first time since 2010.  The Tigers meanwhile earn just their second ever win in the all-time series with Rochester, with the last win coming in the 1997-98 season.

Junior co-captain Ally Forness led the Yellowjackets with 13 points and six rebounds in 15 minutes played.  Brenna James scored nine points on three 3-pointers adding five assists.  Both Julianna Okoniewski and Kenna Lauer each scored eight points while Lena Ethington had six points and 10 rebounds.

RIT was led by Brooke Stanley who scored a game-high 22 points on 8-10 shooting from the floor.  Tara Lynch had 17 points and eight rebounds while Sabrina Wolfe had 11 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.  RIT preseason All-American Cori Okada had nine points and eight assists.

The Tigers were able to jump out to a quick lead, going up 10-3 just four minutes into the game thanks in part to a 1-5 shooting start for the Yellowjackets.

After trailing by seven, the Tessa Ludwick scored five points and Forness added two in a 7-2 spurt for UR, closing the period and pulling Rochester within two at 16-14.

Baskets by Gillian Mair and Shannon Loiseau kept the Yellowjackets within three midway through the second period, but RIT rattled off eight straight points to pull ahead by 11. Okada hit a 3-pointer, Lynch hit an and-one basket and a Wolfe layup closed the run for the Tigers.  At the break, RIT led by eight 40-32.

The Tigers controlled the third quarter, scoring 18 of the 25 points, boosting the lead to 19.

Late in the fourth quarter, UR put together a run. Jamie Boeheim sank a jumper and back-to-back three's from James and Lauer closed the gap to nine, but RIT held the Yellowjackets off over the last couple minutes of the game to earn the victory.

The Yellowjackets are back in action on Friday night for the team's home opener at the Palestra.  UR hosts Baldwin Wallace on the first day of play in the Chuck Resler Invitational at 8 pm.
