The Oglethorpe women's basketball team picked up a comprehensive win over Agnes Scott in their home opener Tuesday night at Dorough Field House, running past the Scotties 78-37 to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The Stormy Petrels made no mistake early on. They put the Scotties under immense pressure over the opening section of the game and outscored them 32-3 in the first quarter. That included a 22-0 run over the opening 6:30 and culminated in a 10-0 stretch over the final three minutes of the period. Bridging into the second quarter, Oglethorpe outscored Agnes Scott 17-2 over a 6:30 stretch and took a 39-5 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the half. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the opening half and Oglethorpe led 41-11 at the break.

Oglethorpe continued to build their advantage in the second half, outscoring the Scotties 19-11 in the third period and 18-15 in the fourth. They finished with their largest lead of the contest, beating Agnes Scott by 41 points.

The Petrels shot 41.0 percent to the Scotties' 21.3 percent and sank 52.6 percent of their three-point attempts. Oglethorpe forced 23 Scottie turnovers and outscored them 37-3 off those takeaways. The home side outscored the visitors 12-6 in second chance points, 12-0 on the fast break and 54-8 off the bench.

Individually, sophomore forward Hayden Neal led the way with 10 points, nine rebounds and two steals off the bench. She converted on 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard Mimi Woods converted on 3 of 6 shots to finish with 10 points and a pair of steals, while senior guard Clarissa Hopkins scored eight points on 3-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.

The Petrels now head to Birmingham, Alabama, for the Richard Dardenne Memorial Classic Saturday and Sunday. They'll take on Rose-Hulman Saturday at 7 p.m. EST and Mary Hardin-Baylor Sunday at 3 p.m. Both of those teams received votes in the preseason D3hoops.com poll, as did the Petrels.
