(HOLLAND, Mich.) – The No. 3-ranked Thomas More College women's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship's sectional final "Elite 8" as it defeated Gustavus Adolphus College, 75-67, on Friday (March 9, 2018) in a sectional semifinal game at DeVos Fieldhouse on the campus of Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

With the win, the Saints improve to 29-1 and will play either No. 4-ranked Hope or No. 18-ranked Christopher Newport University in the sectional finals "Elite 8" tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at DeVos Fieldhouse. With the loss, Golden Gusties end the season at 24-7.

Gustavus Adolphus jumped out to an 8-4 lead when Justine Lee made a lay-up with 6:57 to play in the first quarter.  The Saints answered with a 6-0 run to take a 10-8 lead when 3:30 to play in the opening quarter when sophomore forward Emily Schultz (Melbourne, Ky./Bishop Brossart) made one-of-two free-throws.  Mikayla Miller made a three-pointer with 53-seconds to cap a 13-7 run to give the Golden Gusties a 21-17 lead after one quarter.

Thomas More out-scored Gustavus Adolphus 15-8 in the second quarter to take a 32-29 lead at halftime.  Gustavus Adolphus opened the third quarter on a 5-2 run to tie the game at 34-34 when Miranda Rice made a jumper with 9:04 to play in the quarter.  The Saints responded with a 23-10 run to close out the quarter capped by a Schultz free-throw with 31-seconds to give the Saints a 57-44 lead after one quarter.  The Golden Gusties out-scored the Saints 23-18 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough as the Saints posted the 75-67 victory.

The Saints had a 34-30 advantage in points in the pain and 12-10 lead in points off turnovers.

Junior guard Madison Temple (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) led all scorers with 25 points.  Joining her in double-figure scoring was senior guard Abby Owings (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 15 points and Schultz with 12 points.  Schultz led the Saints on the boards with seven rebounds, while Temple pulled down five rebounds.  Temple also led the team in assists with four and steals with seven.
