MARIETTA, Ohio — No. 21 Ohio Northern University went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line in the final minute of the second overtime period to escape Ban Johnson Arena with a 93-85 win over Marietta College Saturday (Feb. 17) afternoon.

The win gives ONU the Ohio Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship and the top seed in next week's OAC Tournment. The Polar Bears finished the regular season 21-4 overall and 15-3 in the OAC. Marietta slips to 21-4 overall and will be the No. 2 seed with a 14-4 OAC record.

Marietta will host John Carroll in the OAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Tuesday (Feb. 20) at 6 p.m.

"This was a championship level game that went back and forth," Marietta head coach Kole Vivian said. "We showed a lot of toughness coming back from down 13 points in the third quarter."

Corrie Burkhardt led four Pioneers in double figures with 26 points. She also grabbed a team-best nine rebounds and had five steals. Seniors Brooke Borich and Amisha Herd scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Alexis Enoch chipped in with 11 points and eight boards and blocked five ONU shots.

"We really wanted to win this one for our seniors. They have changed so much about our program and got us to a level where talking about winning championships is a realistic thing," Vivian said. "The good thing is we have an opportunity to bounce back in the OAC tournament and I know we'll see the same resilient bunch we have been throughout the year."

Amy Bullimore led the Polar Bears with 25 points and 16 rebounds. Emily Mescher also notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Alyssa Manley finished with 15 points and Alexis Kirkbride added 12 markers.

Other than a few brief two and three-point leads, Marietta played from behind for most of regulation. The Polar Bears led 22-17 after the first quarter and 37-33 at halftime.

Ohio Northern pushed its lead to as many as 13 points, 56-43, in the third quarter. Herd scored the final four points of the third period trimming the ONU lead to nine, 56-47, heading into the fourth quarter.

An old fashioned three-point play from Enochs with 4:57 left in regulation evened the game at 62-62. Another layup from Enochs sent the game into overtime tied at 68-68.

Marietta opened the extra period with layup from Shay Lett and two free throws from Burkhardt for a four-point, 72-68, Pioneer lead. After trading buckets, a layup from Burkhardt made it a five-point MC lead with 1:14 left in the first overtime.

Following a three-point play from Bullimore, Herd converted one of two free throws making it a three-point Pioneer lead, 79-76, with 10 seconds left. ONU called a timeout and elected to advance the ball into the frontcourt.

The Polar Bears inbounded the ball to Lindsey Black who quickly found Bullimore at the top of three-point arc. The ONU senior nailed the trifecta sending the game into a second overtime tied at 79-79.

Kirkbride opened the scoring in the second overtime with a three-pointer for the Polar Bears. Back-to-back layups from Burkhardt and Borich put the Pioneers back in front, 83-82, with 3:15 remaining.

Another triple from Kirkbride and a jumper from Borich gave Ohio Northern a two-point advantage. Bullimore was then whistled for her fifth foul sending Marietta to the line with a chance to draw even with 1:11 on the clock.

The Pioneers missed both free throws and then committed a foul on the other end. Mescher converted both free throws pushing the lead to four, 89-85, with 56 seconds left on the clock. Marietta missed a three-pointer on the ensuing possession and was forced to foul. Jenna Dirksen converted four free throws in the final seconds to secure the win for ONU.
