ANDERSON, Ind. - The Rose-Hulman women's basketball team continues to make history. After making history earlier in the week being ranked #24 in the D3Hoops.com Top 25, the first-ever top 25 ranking a women's sport at Rose-Hulman has earned, the women set another program record following their 61-31 win over Anderson Wednesday night. The win over the Ravens was the 19th straight victory for the Fightin' Engineers and that winning streak surpasses the 18-game winning streak set by Rose-Hulman back in 2015-16. Rose has also won 31 straight games against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponents.
Rose-Hulman controlled the entire game from the start. The Fightin' Engineers got out to an early 6-0 lead and led by 14, 18-4, following the first quarter. Rose-Hulman's defense was equally as strong in the second period, limiting the Ravens to just five points. At the half, RHIT led 33-9.
Rose-Hulman's defense, which ranked No. 5 nationally in the most recent NCAA Division III statistical rankings, held the Ravens below 10 points again in the third quarter, limiting AU to six points. For the game, Rose held Anderson to 29% (12-41) shooting. The Fightin' Engineers outrebounded Anderson 41-28 and pressured the Ravens into 27 turnovers.
Chiarra Franklin was the lone Engineer to score in double figures, leading the team with 12 points. However, 12 different Engineers scored in the contest. Lindsey Fagerberg finished with nine points and four rebounds. Kayla Gerken added nine points and three rebounds. Taylor Graham scored seven points. Abby Bromenschenkel grabbed eight rebounds in the win.
The win moved the #24 Fightin' Engineers to 21-3, 17-0 HCAC. Anderson dropped to 0-24, 0-17. Rose-Hulman will conclude the regular season at Manchester on Saturday February 17. Tipoff on Saturday is at 3 p.m. The Fightin' Engineers have already locked up the top spot in the HCAC and will host the HCAC Conference Tournament February 23-24 in Hulbert Arena.
