GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Taylor Blevins scored a game-best 18 points as Emory & Henry College used a big second half to win at Guilford College, 63-59, in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game Wednesday. Blevins was 8-of-9 shooting and grabbed six rebounds.
The Wasps, ranked fifth in the most recent NCAA Division III South Region Poll, improved to 17-5 and 10-3 in the ODAC. The Quakers dropped to 14-6 and 8-5 ODAC.
The game was tied 23-23 at halftime. Emory & Henry outscored Guilford, 18-13, in the third period. The visitors led by as many as 10 points in the final quarter.
Guilford, however, cut the deficit to two points on three occasions in the final 1:08. Emory & Henry answered each challenge with two points of their own.
Miracle Walters led three Quakers in double figures with 16 points. She was 7-for-12 shooting and had five rebounds. Lauren Ramsey collected 15 points and dished out a game-high seven assists. Essence Abraham contributed 11 points and four assists for the Quakers.
For the Wasps, Sydney McKinney recorded 12 points and Kara Stafford grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds. Emory & Henry led in rebounding, 38-31.
Guilford shot 44 percent (25-57), compared to Emory & Henry's 40 percent (23-57). The Wasps led in three-point baskets, 5-3. Guilford committed 19 turnovers and forced 22 miscues.
Guilford hosts league-leading Randolph-Macon College Saturday (2/10) at 4:30 p.m.
